Council endorses new Economic Growth and Tourism Strategic Plan 2025–30

On 16 September, the council endorsed the final Economic Growth and Tourism Strategic Plan 2025–30 – a roadmap to guide how council supports business growth, attracts investment, strengthens the visitor economy, and creates vibrant, connected places over the next five years.

Onkaparinga is growing, and we want that growth to be smart, inclusive and sustainable. This plan has been shaped by the insight of local businesses, industry stakeholders and the community, and aligns closely with our Community Vision 2034.

Our mission is to create value for the local economy by building on our region’s strengths, advocating for what it needs, and bolstering connections for lasting outcomes that benefit business, people and the planet.

What this means for local business

The plan focuses on enabling business growth, attracting visitors and investment, and fostering vibrant places to live, work and explore. Key actions include:

  • Benchmarking to align council processes with business needs
  • Tourism accommodation assessment to meet growing visitor demand
  • Leveraging our Visitor Centre as a nationally recognised asset
  • Supporting First Nations business development
  • Strengthening local business connections across the ecosystem
  • Unlocking industrial land to drive investment and job creation
  • Expanding Go South Go Local to boost local spending
  • Delivering new grant funding programs to activate precincts and encourage innovation
  • Destination marketing and iconic event attraction to grow year-round visitation.

For us, success means an economic and tourism future that’s grounded in what makes Onkaparinga different, our coast, our culture, and our community, while ensuring we are ready for what’s next.
